Visiting from Ohio and came here on a recommendation from a friend. Had a wonderful meal... Great service and great conversation. Tried everything on the menu and it was awesome. My oldest son wouldn't stop eating. Thanks for everything.

Worst Indian food ever! Seriously, I was astonished by how bad the food is here. Stay away. Nothing is good here. I don't expect authentic ethnic food in Rapid City, but they don't even try to make the food taste like Indian food.

just the right portions at a great price! lamb curry with rice and bread and a pop $7! plus.. hits the spot. only downside, bread is not home made, not naan if your expecting it like me.. its more like a tortilla, flat and tasteless.

I love eating at Al's place. He has two locations, and I personally am a bigger fan of the one by the radio office, not the sit-down restaurant. Once you come in a few times, Al will always recognize you and will even remember your favorite foods! My wife ate regularly at Al's for over six years and since we moved there have been other Indian restaurants, but none as good or as comfortable as Al and Justine's place! I am personally a HUGE fan of the payasaam (best I've ever had) and meatball curry.

My family and I just ate ate the downtown establishment and this is the worst Indian food I have had, period! The staff is very young and inexperienced and it shows in the service. When I brought this up with the manager tonight he only offered excuses for his and his staff's lack of ability to provide acceptable service. No apologies were offered by him. It's any wonder his staff provide the service they do since they have such poor mentoring and guidance. Please save your money and do not bother giving your business to this restaurant. Maybe this will send the message to the owner(s) that they need to revamp their menu, retrain their staff, and look for new management.

This place rules. My first thoughts about Rapid City were, in no particular order, that this was a place where culture came to die, where white people came to be extra boring pod people, and where I would never ever eat anything remotely exotic and amazing ever again. So imagine the surprise...no, the sheer orgasmic delight, that my foodhole and mindhole experienced when I ate at Curry Masala. We went to the location on St. Joe's, at dinner. This place has a lunch service (11-2PM) and dinner service (5-9PM). The wait staff was great, attentive, and they doled out the free chai like freaking walking spicy delicious drink fountains. The menu is not huge, but offers an amazing selection of dairy-free, gluten-free, and/or vegetarian options. Foodhole orgasm began with the pappadams- crispy tortilla chip-like lentil patties- that were served with yummy mint chutney. Then some dal soup...which actually wasn't that awesome, but you know, it's all about the highs and lows of the taste-fest rollercoaster, amiright? Anyhow, then came the main courses. By the way, if they ask if you want rice, say yes. Having come from a state where your portions were massive and generally served atop some kind of super-carb, I am not used to asking for it. I ordered the Tamarind Curry Fish and the hubs had the paneer. The saag paneer was the SHIT. My fish was okay, the curry wasn't as spicy as I would have liked. But fuck was that saag paneer amazing. I want it in a bottle to smooth over my skin and wear it like some sexy green cheesy delicious cumin scented lotion. That was pretty much the foodhole orgasm crescendo right there. The prices were fair (30 bucks for two apps and two entrees + chai), and the restaurant with the weird giant dong sign did not, NOT disappoint.

I really want to love this place for many different reasons. I went to their first location down in the gap and followed them to the current location downtown. The owners were so friendly when I went to their first location, just absolute dolls. I want to love this place because it's the only Indian food in the Black Hills, and if you're a foodie/chef and NOT from here but living here, it's torture to find good food either at grocers' or restaurants. I'd call the menu a variety of yippee to icky. It constantly changes, which while that could be a GOOD thing, isn't because when they do hit upon a recipe that is yippee, you can't go back and request it because they already changed the menu. I go there when I'm just about dying for Indian food. And it provides, but I have to keep an entirely open mind. It could be yippee or YIPES GET ME OUTTA HERE. However, it's quiet, a great location downtown. One day, I struck up a conversation with a young chap who was the cook. He absolutely astounded me with his idea for improving the restaurant. He's obviously Caucasion and not Indian but he had a GREAT, UNIQUE idea for making Indian pizza. I told him to "GET ON THIS AND SELL THIS IDEA TO YOUR BOSSES." Who knows if they'll jump on it. They could have a secret speciality niche: not only Indian but Indian Pizza. It's got a lot going for it, but I can't grant higher than a 2 star.

No this isn't an award winning Indian restaurant, but it IS a place where they take great care in sharing the food they love. Though there might be some complaint over it not being a "good" Indian restaurant by people who love Indian food, understand that this is what their family had & what they eat & what they love. They aren't trying to be a restaurant who competes in an upscale culinary world - it's food they love, served cafeteria style. Cheap, good food, and the sweetest, friendliest people in the world own it.

They have two locations in Rapid City and I've only been to one on West Main. The menu is changed once a week so there isn't that much variety but its so good! Hot sauce is a must but use it in moderation especially if you get all the seasoning at the bottom. A great place to go for an inexpensive and delicious lunch or dinner!

I like this place, food is good and well worth the money....not too places you can have lunch for under $5 anymore.

although it's served cafeteria-style, every time you go there it's like spinning a roulette wheel of curry. don't get me wrong, it's quite delicious, and both locations always have three meat (one always being tandoori chicken) and three veggie curries on hand. the downtown one has evening dining and an expanded menu, but do not sell indian ingredients like the west side one does (they sell things like bags of rice, curry packets, coconut milk, that sort of thing). if i don't go at least once a month, i get sad...indian food is like soul food for me.

The food isn't something I would recommend to someone looking for great Indian food but who could resist eating at a restaurant where the sign looks like a penis?! Other than having a great story the place wasn't impressive.

I love their shrimp curry on fridays! As long as they are serving their curry rice that week. They change their rice once a week so you will either get spice, curry or lemon rice.
